Abstract
This article discusses in general the Indonesian maritime historiography written by Indonesian historians in a mapping and its direction of development. By putting the methodological and theoretical framework as well as the use of local resources, a review of the relatively less developed maritime historiography is expected to produce more fascinating results in the future. Maritime history basically contributes greatly to the discovery and strengthening of the "Indonesia-centris" perspective, a long-standing obsession with the development of the Indonesian historiography. Efforts to avoid "follow the Dutch trail" can be done with studies on many marine areas especially eastern Indonesia. With studies as such will be obtained a lot of data from case studies that are useful for the development of methodology and theory or at least concept formulation as proposed by historian A.B. Lapian and initial exploratory concepts are offered from this article.
