Abstract

Adolescence is a dynamic developmental phase on the life of a person. This phase is a transtitional phase from the childhood phase to the adult phase, which characterized by velocity of physical, mental, emotional, and social development. On this phase, some metabolic changes occured in the adolescent body . The life style of the adolescents will cause them to become more susceptible to some health problems, such as hypertension. Hypertension is defned as an average systolic blood pressure and/or diastolic blood pressure that is > 95th percentile for gender, age, and height on > 3 occasions, and classifed into prehypertension, stage-1 hypertension,and stage-2 hypertension. Blood pressure in adolescents is infuenced by some factors such as age, height, gender, race, overweight or obesity, low birth weight, genetics, physical activities, smooking, and alcohol consumption. The management of hypertension in adolescents are blood pressure control and management of the underlying diseases,and consists of non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic management. The goal of hypertension management is to reduce blood pressure until below the 95th percentile.
