Abstract

Universitas Indonesia Biota Collection Room in Depok (RKBUI) is a university-scale collection room that houses preserved animal and plant collections from various regions. RKBUI is being pioneered to become a biota collection institution that is reliable and widely accessible not only to researchers but also to the public. One of the massive collections owned by the UI Biota Collection Room is collections from the gastropod group. To obtain clear information regarding the number and potential of these gastropod collections, specimen management activities were carried out. The results of database compilation and specimen digitization obtained the following collection data: more than 5000 specimens were collected consisting of 283 species from 56 families dated from 1977 to 2019. The family with the most members was Cypraeidae. The specimens came from various terrestrial and aquatic habitats across Indonesia which 82% were from the Islands of Java. Digitization activities produced various representative photos of specimens. The gastropod collection database and the digitized specimen results were uploaded to the specimen database website: ruangkoleksibiotaui.id. The results of this study were expected to be a valuable and reliable source of data and contribute to the development of a wide arrays of biodiversity-related research in Indonesia.
