“Frustrasi Versus Puas”: Pengalaman Keluarga dalam Merawat Anggota Keluarga Obesitas

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

The prevalence of obesity in Indonesia is increasing at all ages. Families have a major role in treating obesity. The purpose of this study was to determine the family's experience in managing nutrition in obese families. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Seven participants aged 29-60 years who have family members with obesity were selected through purposive sampling. Three themes were identified, namely: (1) frustration at not being successful with all the efforts made; (2) satisfied because they succeeded in proving their ability as a nutrition manager for obese family members; (3) a source of support in monitoring obese family members. Families reported that the emergence of negative feelings from families who were running a weight management program greatly affected the meaning felt by family caregivers. Health workers are expected to explore the feelings and meanings experienced by families before deciding on appropriate interventions in managing nutrition for obesity. The right approach to family conditions is expected to produce the right intervention so that the final achievement is more optimal.
