Abstract

Introduction: Surgical services are health services that describe the quality of a hospital. Due to the high costs of managing surgical services, we are required to optimize the efficiency of services in the operating room. One of the operational service efficiency parameters is the timeliness of operational scheduling. Postponement of surgery is an important problem that causes patient dissatisfaction, increased costs and prolongs the patient's stay as well as less efficient management. Besides that, it has an impact on the patient's psychology. The rate of postponement of operations at Fatmawati Central General Hospital is still high, namely 2.3%, while the achievement target is ≤ 2.0%, so it is still not in accordance with clinical quality indicators. Delays in surgery are caused by patient medical factors, logistical and administrative factors. Research is needed as a basis for determining policies at Fatmawati Hospital. Objective: This study aims to determine the causes of delays in surgery at Fatmawati Central General Hospital. Method: The method used in this research is a quantitative description with a cross sectional design. Data collection was carried out in January-March 2023 using secondary data. The data obtained was processed using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. Results: The results of the study showed that the majority of patients who experienced delayed surgery were female, 52.3%, with an age category ranging from 41-60 years, 35.56%. Delays in elective operations were mostly caused by logistical and administrative factors at 59.1%, namely indicators of insufficient time and insufficient availability of ICU rooms and other factors caused by the patient's medical factors. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between logistical and administrative factors (p value = 0.02), and there is a relationship between patient medical factors and delay in surgery (p value = 0.02).
