Abstract
Background: One of the mental disorders that is generally felt is stress. Stress on students can be caused by the inability to carry out their obligations as students such as lecture assignments, target achievement scores, academic achievement, the need to self-regulate, develop better thinking skills and the preparation of final assignments. Objective: This study aims to determine the factors that influence the incidence of student stress including age, gender, place of residence, biological factors, and psychological factors. Methods: The sample in this study was obtained as many as 97 students. Data was obtained using a questionnaire and analyzed by univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. The results of the study used bivariate analysis of factors related to the occurrence of stress, namely gender (pvalue = 0.038), age (pvalue = 0.038), biological factors (pvalue = 0.001), and psychological factors (pvalue = 0.0001), and unrelated factors, namely place of residence (p-value = 0.713) but the variable of residence was analyzed multivariately because substantially the place of residence became an important variable with the incidence of stress. Results: Multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between biological factors (pvalue = 0.014) and psychological factors (pvalue = 0.0001). Conclusion: This study concludes that biological factors and psychological factors have a relationship with the incidence of stress in postgraduate students of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia in thesis preparation.
