Abstract

Background: The weight at birth is a crucial health indicator that has a pivotal role in children's subsequent survival and development. Objective: This study aimed to determine the dominant factors contributing to low birth weight (LBW) in the operational region of Public Health Centre of Ranai, Bunguran Timur Sub-district. Methodes: The research employed a case-control design. The participants in this research were selected based on the frequency of visits made by pregnant women between January and December 2021, and mothers who gave birth during the same period and from January to April 2022. Results: The study findings indicated significant associations between several factors and the outcome variable, including, occupation (p = 0.000), age (p = 0.727), parity (p = 0.000), ANC examination (p = 0.748), LILA (p = 0.640), and maternal height (p = 0.037) and Maternal height emerged as the dominant factor for low birth weight (LBW). This can be accomplished by implementing a family-centred strategy to enhance maternal and child health outcomes. The concept of optimal growth readiness, particularly regarding women's height, is of significant importance due to the subsequent pregnancy process experienced by women, which was indicated a correlation between a woman's height and her baby's birth weight.
