Abstract

The multiple roles of working mothers are often more complicated when infants are born due to the need for exclusive breastfeeding. This situation may influence the decision to terminate breastfeeding after returning to work from maternity leave. Therefore, this study aimed to identify factors affecting exclusive breastfeeding sustainability among working mothers. The scoping review method was used to search articles relating to the topic through the PubMed, ProQuest, and Science Direct databases based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A total of 13 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected for the subsequent conduction of data analysis. Sustainability-influencing factors were found to include individual characteristics, time, facilities, and support. Additionally, it was recommended that workplaces in the formal sector should develop comprehensive lactation support programs for mothers.
