Abstract
Factors affecting tuberculosis mortality and morbidity are examined. Regression analysis and cross-sectional data from 18 developed and developing countries are used to explore the socioeconomic variables associated with tuberculosis. The problems associated with international comparisons of tuberculosis mortality are discussed, and the likely global magnitude of the tuberculosis problem over the next 10 to 15 years is considered.
