Abstract

Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions has become a strong demand in container terminals. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of azimuth angle on the energy consumption of refrigerated container. The introduction of installation of roof shade at reefer container storage area provide advantages on the reducing of energy consumption. In predicting such circumstances, numerical analysis using computational fluid dynamics will provide an estimation of energy saving of the roof shade in the various condition of azimuth angle. Design methodology is created and simulated for effective installation of roof shade and its practical applications are carried out with the case study is in port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Indonesia. Through these methodologies, the design of effective installation roof shade for reefer container storage area in accordance with the arrangement of the container port could be obtained. The simulations concluded that design of installation roof shade effective to reduce energy consumption, furthermore location and direction arrangement of the container terminal has an influence on the amount of energy saving.
