Abstract

Introduction: Stres is something that is often experienced by postgraduate students, especially related to academic performance. Exposure to excessive stres without proper coping skills and stres management can make students experience more serious psychological health problems such as depression and suicide. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the stres management program conducted on postgraduate students at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia. Method: The research design used was a quasi-experimental pre-post test control group design. The research sample consisted of postgraduate students who took and did not take stres management course (74 students). The 3 questionnaires used in this study are the stres scale, SRQ-20, Burn Out Self Test. Analysis was performed using the paired T-Test. Result: The stres management techniques given to the intervention group were significantly able to reduce stres levels (p value 0.002), reduce burn out scale (p value 0.003) and reduce symptoms of mental emotional disorders (p value 0.003). While the control group actually showed an increase in the stres scale from an average score of 161.14 to 186.27, an increase in the burn out scale from a score of 28.27 to 29.08 and an increase in the average symptoms of mental emotional disorders score from 3.19 to 4. 14. Conclusion: Stres management exercises are effectively applied to reduce academic stres in postgraduate students. Multiple stres management is recommended to be applied in college to reduce student stres levels, especially related to academic stres.
