title = "Drag reduction effect of crude palm oil flow by using Tween 80 in pentagon spiral pipe",
abstract = "The growing interest to produce biofuel from vegetable oil has increased demand for crude palm oil (CPO) as a potential source for biofuel production. The common problems encountered in industrial processes through piping system are cloudiness and high consumption on pump power due to high drag in CPO flow. Tween 80 (T80) as nonionic surfactant commonly used to reduce the cloud point. The objective of this study was to more wide investigate about T80 in several concentrations into CPO flow in pentagon spiral pipe to reveal the drag reduction impact. The test pipes were the pentagon spiral pipe with diameter ratio P/Di 10.8 and circular pipe with inner diameter 4 mm. The circular pipe was used comparison for drag reduction prediction. The effectiveness of drag reduction effect was analyzed by measuring of pressure drop at two pressure tap points. The results showed that T80 concentrations have an important impact on drag reduction effect and pentagon spiral pipe have higher drag reduction effect than circular pipe. ",
