Abstract
Introduction: Until the age of six months, newborns should exclusively be breastfed according to WHO and UNICEF recommendations. Exclusive breastfeeding, however, is limited by a number of factors, including habits or beliefs that have become part of a culture. Inhibitors of other socio-cultural factors adversely affect mothers' ability to provide exclusive breastfeeding. Objective: Specifically, this study aims to determine whether exclusive breastfeeding is successful in the Work Area of Puskesmas Ciangsana, Bogor District in 2022. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the working area of Puskesmas Ciangsana, Bogor District, West Java, consisting of three villages, namely Nagrak, Ciangsana, and Bojongkulur. 114 Mothers who had babies aged between 6-12 months were sampled from the Random Sampling System (SRS) for the study. The data was collected via a link questionnaire accompanied by a kabo tool box. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine the successful of exclusive breastfeeding. Results: The most important factor for the success of exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Puskesmas Ciangsana was the support of health workers who had a 4.25 times higher risk of exclusively breastfeeding (OR= 4.25; 95% CI: 1.63 11.12; P = 0.003), after adjusting for mother's knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, family support, and traditions. Futhermore, it was followed by a positive attitude of the mother (OR = 3.85; 95% CI: 1.51 9.85; P-value = 0.005) and a supportive tradition (OR = 3.08; 95% CI: 0.63 14.99; P value = 0.164). Conclusion: In the Puskesmas Ciangsana's working area, the health worker's support significantly increases the success of exclusive breastfeeding. It may be possible to change behavior and socio-culture by supporting health professionals in presenting information, so that it is expected to maximize community awareness about exclusive breastfeeding.
