N2 - Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world which has a very large diversity of marine and fishery resources, so that fishing vessels are needed to utilize these resources. However, the operation of fishing vessel requires fuel consumption, and it will lead to some environmental problems. In this case, the use of alternative energy source is needed to overcome these problems. Some previous research had investigated the usage and availability of solar power in marine vessels. Photovoltaic (PV) systems can act as ideal subsidiary power sources because it has some advantages, so in this research the design of fishing vessel with PV system as an additional energy source will be proposed. After doing some design and calculation, it is found that the fuel consumption savings for this ship design using PV system is 11 liters per day, so when it calculated for a month, it can save as much as 330 liters of fuel.
