Design of Circular Polarization Microstrip Patch Antenna Combined with Conical Horn

Abstract

This study presents a simulation of an S-Band communication ground station antenna system with a circularly polarized microstrip antenna and a double-arm feeding line. It considers a substrate with a relative permittivity of 2.2 and a thickness of 1.575 mm to design the proposed antenna. One of the most crucial aspects of an antenna with circular polarization is its axial ratio. This proposed antenna uses a double-arm feeding line with an aperture connected between the patch and the feeding line. The power transfer occurs by electromagnetic coupling to achieve circular polarization. At a frequency of 2.3 GHz, the gain of the conical horn and microstrip patch antenna is 9.468 dB. This return loss value ranges from 2.288 to 2.31 GHz at a threshold of -10 dB. With a 3 dB limit, the axial ratio achieved a bandwidth frequency of 2.271-2.308 GHz. It shows a good performance for further research and implementation.
