Design and analysis of upper wishbone for suspension system on vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) propulsion system flying car

Abstract

The idea of this VTOL propulsion system is to combine the fan propulsion system in the car wheel system attached to the suspension system. Thus a special design is required that allows the suspension system to change direction of the fan propulsion system for take-off or landing and can certainly fulfill its function (car wheel support system as driving and steering) when the flying car moves on the road. The selection of material and the wishbone shape is an important aspect of wishbone design to meet the designs required. Wishbone will be made from steel-shaped tube. The following are some of the material candidates to be used. Analysis will be run by simulation with variation combining the material and wishbone shape. the combination design Upper Wishbone without Bracing and material AISI 1040 is the best combination design. Shape design Upper Wishbone without Bracing is choose because lighter, easier to fabrication and generated smaller drag value. Material AISI 1040 chooses because the price is cheaper than material AISI 4130, even though a little more expensive than material AISI 1020.
