Cross-cultural communication in multinational companies: Problems and suggestions

Abstract

This essay discuss about the communication problem, which occurred if the Multinational Companies (MNC's) in Indonesia when hired expatriate from the western countries. The aim of the article is to explain the dilemma in the cross-cultural communication and find the solutions to cope the problem. This article wrote through desk research by reviewing some recent researches and literature study, there are two dimensions of national cultures, individualism versus collectivism. The result found that, managers from Indonesia-based MNC's should understand both dimensions to anticipate the miscommunication between expatriates and the companies.
