Abstract
Classical manuscripts or classical documents can not be separated from the culture of the nation which it is composed. The contents of a classical manuscript or classical documents covers all aspects of cultural life of the nation concerned. Aspects of life includes a variety of fields, such as philosophy, religion, social, legal, language, and others. Referring to the statement above, the classic manuscript or classic documents can be assessed by various scientific approaches related to human life at the time of the classical manuscript or documents written. However, before this classical manuscript can be assessed by a variety of scientific approaches, first classical manuscript must be studied using the approach of philology. In its development, philology technical study is associated with problems relating to linguistics. Philology study can be linked with linguistic in the history of the language, vocabulary, grammar, semantics, and others . This paper will discuss contribution of classical manuscripts or classical documents study to the linguistic study, especially the structure of the language and the vocabulary that was used in the manuscript. This study specifically highlights the use of the word akan in the script and the development of their use in Indonesian language. The object of this study uses data derived from classical manuscripts or classical documents in the form of letters of agreement in classical Malay language, the letters of agreement from the western and eastern Indonesian region. This study shows that akan as prepositions and adverbs show special linguistic characteristics and there was development of the use compared with Indonesian language. Thus, the results of this study shows that the manuscript or document in the form of a letter of agreement in classical Malay language can be used as the data to document the forms of classical Malay. In addition, these letters of agreement can also be used as data to see developments in classical Malay to find its form as an Indonesian language known to the public today .
