Abstract

Scientists in the past have conducted several researches to improve the quality of sciatic nerve injury therapy. This research was aimed at comparing the result of using various agents that improves the nerve conduction and functional index of sciatic nerve. Systematic literature review was the method we implemented. We studied articles that discussed various agents used in the treatment of the nerve conduction and functional index of sciatic nerve. We used articles obtained from PubMed as our main source of information. The search for information in PubMed were in two stages, in the first stage we used the keyword SFI to search and we obtained 7 journal articles that matched our keyword. In the second stage we used the sciatic nerve injury and scaffold as the search keywords and we obtained three journal articles. The studies related to peripheral nerve (sciatic nerve) injury mostly used Sprague-Dawley rat. The studied showed that significant improvement was made in recovery from the nerve injuries with just therapeutic agents until after surgery. We concluded that therapeutic agents are not enough in treatment of sciatic nerve injuries. Surgery remains a golden standard that should be added when treating injuries of the sciatic nerve.
