Abstract

This paper presents convergence behavior of two 3-nodes triangular plate elements based on free formulation. FBT (Felippa Bergan Triangular) element derived from classical Kirchoff plate theory and DSTK (Discrete Shear Triangular Katili) element derived using Reissner and Mindlin plate theory are studied. The stiffness matrix is formulated to meet the requirements of individual element test and fulfill the patch test. Two skew plate models are used based on Morley's 30° skew plate and Razzaque's 60° skew plate for the thin plate problem. The results show good convergencies and similar behavior for both elements in thin skew plate problems.
