Abstract

An experimental and analytical study was conducted on the buckling behaviour of balance-symmetry carbon/epoxy hat-stiffened skin panel. The stacking sequence was designed by Composite Design Group PT. IPTN. Hat-stiffened skin panel, 420×500 mm square, with three hat-stiffeners was manufactured from unidirectional Ciba-Geigy's Fibredux 913C-TS5-40/T300 carbon/epoxy and tested in uniaxial compression to failure with clamped-loaded end and free sides boundary condition. Simple analytical study used the classical laminate theory and smeared-out method. MSC/NASTRAN program was used on finite element analysis to predict the buckling load and mode. The results of analytical study correlate well with experiment within initial buckling phenomena. Imperfection of skin panel affected on the postbuckling behaviour.
