Abstract

Background: Breast Conserving Surgery (BCS) and Radiotherapy (RT) of the
conserved breast have become widely accepted during the past three decades for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer. The method for administration of this boost is usually implant brachytherapy. The implant brachytherapy is the
placement of radioactive in the mammary tissue delivering high dose to the tumor bed. Method:. Retrospective analysis with 59 patients of early breast cancer (stage IIIIB) in 2001-2008 underwent BCS and external irradiation 50 Gy followed by Implant Brachyteraphy Booster 9-10 Gy. Subjective cosmetic analysis divided into good, moderate, and poor. Results: With median follow-up was 50 months (12-96 months), the Overall Survival, local reccurence, and distant metastases were 74,6%, 3,3% and 25,4% respectively. Subjective cosmetic analysis were good 90%, moderate 5%, and poor 5%. Conclusion: Brachytherapy implant is a good method for treating the tumor bed, with high dose rates, offering high rates of local control and very good cosmetic
results. Keywords: breast conserving surgery, implant brachyterapy, local control, cosmetic.
