Antioxidants production of Aspergillus spp. from Universitas Indonesia Culture Collection (UICC)

Abstract

The aim of this research was to produce antioxidants of 12 strains of Aspergillus spp. from the Universitas Indonesia Culture Collection (UICC). The fermentation was carried out with MPGY medium for 14 days in room temperature (26-29°C) under still culture condition. The filtrate was extracted using ethyl acetate. The result revealed the antioxidant yield was the lowest A. phoenicus UICC 13 (1.50%) and the highest was A. niger UICC 371 (3.80%). Analysis antioxidants using thin layer chromatography (TLC) the BHT as a standard showed the Rf value of Aspergillus awamori UICC 9 has the same Rf value as the standard (0.16). An antioxidants activity analysis using DPPH (2,2 diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl) confirmed that Aspergillus awamori UICC 9 has Inhibition Concentration (IC50) value of 1359.5 μg/mL.
