Abstract

This paper will study the convergence of the Functionally Graded Material (FGM) on plates. FGM plates are a combination of two or more materials that change continuously along with the thickness of the plate. As a result, unlike normal composite, there will be no delamination on the FGM plate. The triangular Discrete Shear Gap (DSG3) element is used, which is formulated for F G M with a 5 degree of freedom on each node. This element is unique in that the entire strain matrix is constant, so the stiffness matrix calculation per element process is faster than other elements. Square plate static problem is conducted to show the convergence behavior.
