Abstract
Introduction: Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infections pose significant problems in public health. HCV infection rates remain high, especially among young adult injection drug users. Objective: This study aims at describing the several risk factors for HCV infection. Method: The study design is cross-sectional. The data collection was carried out in Tebet Regional Public Hospital, where the sample is all patients checking HCV at the laboratory and over the age of 15. We assessed risk factors such as age, gender, education level, occupation, marital status, injecting drug users (IDU), and HCV serological status. Result: The results showed that according to gender, 41.3% of positive cases were found among male patients and 21.1% among female patients. In the group of patients aged 40-49 years, the majority tested positive for HCV (51.4%). Based on the patient's marital status, education, and work, most of them were found to be negative. More than 50% of patients from outside DKI Jakarta were found positive for HCV. Conclusion: Patients’ characteristics (age, gender, married, education, employment, and residence) and IDU records were found to be potential risk factors for developing HCV infection.
