An exploration of emotions amongst mothers of preterm infants; an Indonesian context

Abstract

Objectives: Stress and love in women who gave birth to preterm newborns may be simultaneously present. This study aims to explore women's emotion while accompanying premature newborns until the first-week post discharge from neonatal ward. Method: This is a qualitative descriptive design with an interpretive descriptive approach on 23 participants from two referral hospitals in a Capital City. Results: There are three major themes on this research that describe the occurring stress, the respondents’ cope, and the provision of external support for the respondent. Conclusions: The stressful condition of women while accompanying premature infants comes from the newborn's condition that triggered by social and economic problems faced by women.
