Abstract

This paper reports a study of ultrasound-assisted extraction of from Moringa oleifera leaves. The effects of time (10-30 min), solvent-to-solid ratio (25-75), and ethanol concentration (50-96%) of ultrasound extraction on the yield were investigated using the Taguchi Method of L9 orthogonal array to determine the appropriate parameters. The experimental results showed that ethanol with concentration of 50%, giving the best result of yield, however the best result of total phenolic compound was obtained by 96% ethanol. In this study the effect of time and solvent-to-solid ratio did not show significant results in yield, but in terms of total phenolic compound, significant result can be reached when extracted for 20 min.
