Abstract

GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of The Ocean) is the international organization responsible for collecting, processing, and disseminating global bathymetric data. One of the data provided is the depth of the seabed. One of Indonesia's seas with a wealth of underwater physical characteristics is the Flores Sea. In this research, we validate the accuracy of the topographical information generated from GEBCO satellite images in the Flores Sea in deep and shallow waters. Seabed depth data is obtained free of charge via the official GEBCO website and processed using ArcGIS Pro software. Furthermore, the data obtained from GEBCO will be compared with data from MBES (Multi-Beam Echo Sounder) measurements and BATNAS data. Data analysis was performed using statistical tests at each depth variation. The results obtained, GEBCO exhibits a higher level of reliability in deep water environments compared to shallow waters. The findings indicate a stronger correlation and lower prediction errors, as reflected by the Pearson correlation coefficients and RMSE values, respectively, in deeper marine settings. Additionally, the observed patterns of correlation coefficients and prediction errors indicate that GEBCO tends to more accurately represent values from MBES compared to BATNAS.
