This brief note investigates skill mismatch patterns before and during the pandemic.
It is found that the share of overqualified workers has slightly increased while the
share of underqualified workers has slightly decreased. One plausible explanation
of this shifting trend is that there was a downward occupational mobility, implying
that the quality of jobs in the labor market has declined and signaling a coping
strategy mechanism for the workers to stay being employed during the pandemic.
